Cracker Creek is located on the original 20-acre homestead of Roland "Rollie" F. Johnson, caretaker for the James Gamble Estate (of Procter & Gamble). Spend the day experiencing one of the areas greatest, yet largely undiscovered, historical and ecological treasures. Cracker Creek is a unique, natural back water stream and is one of only a few left undisturbed in Florida. Cracker Creek offers several types of personal boating options including tandem kayaks, single kayaks and canoes, which allow an up-close view of the landscape and wildlife. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Cracker Creek also offers a variety of boat tours. In our smaller 23-foot tour boat, the Spruce Creek Maiden, we can carry a minimum of six up to 12 passengers and for a longer range down Spruce Creek. In our larger 40-foot tour boat, the Spruce Creek Key Largo, we can carry a minimum of 12 up to 42 passengers and travels down a two-mile section of Spruce Creek. Two Hour Private Tour
For those wanting to see more of Spruce Creek, our two-hour Pontoon Tour is just for you. The tour continues five miles further east to the area of the Spruce Creek Preserve. Guests will experience the many and varied eco-systems of Spruce Creek as they meander through the natural, pristine black water cypress swamp, brackish coastal marsh and estuary system, and a glimpse of the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. In these preserves, the Timucua Indians created one of Florida's largest shell mounds and the waters are inhabited by a snail unique only to Spruce Creek, the melongus sprucecreekensis.
This adventure is aboard our smaller tour boat, the Spruce Creek Maiden, and requires a minimum of six passengers with a maximum safety rating of 12. One of our captains will chart a course of fun and relaxation for your friends, family or coworkers. You may opt to have a tour guide providing an eco-history narrative, or prefer just a party cruise, enjoying the scenery while visiting with your group. Cracker Creek can provide refreshments for an additional cost. Tour cost is $24/adult, $19/senior adult (age 65 and older) and $17/child (age 12 and under).
One Hour Eco-History
Sit back and relax on a one-of-a-kind Eco-History Pontoon Boat Tour. Led by our seasoned professional tour guides, this adventure features an interactive narrative, detailing the history and ecology of Spruce Creek and the surrounding area. Depending on the season, you can view any number of native wildlife. Capping off your eco-tour is a demonstration by Cracker Creek's Captain Larry Yester, teaching guests the art of whip cracking and how this was an important tool for the early Florida Cracker Cowboys. The one hour tour travels down a two-mile section of Spruce Creek and is regularly scheduled at 2 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tour dates and times are subject to change, so we recommend you call ahead for a reservation. Tour cost is $12/adult, $10/senior adult (age 65 and older) and $8/child (age 12 and under).
Sunset Cruise
If you're interested in a delightful and distrinctly different way to be entertained, then Cracker Creek's Sunset Cruise is just what you're looking for. Drink the finest beer, wine and have delicious hors d'oeuvres (provided by yourself or a preferred vendor at an additional cost) while cruising scenic Spruce Creek with a special group of family and friends. Afterwards, relax around the campfire at our pavilion as the finale to a unique and memorable evening. Our Sunset Cruise is offered by reservation for groups - minimum of 10 people. Please call ahead to schedule group reservations a minimum of seven days in advance. Tour cost is $24/adult, $19/senior adult, $17/child (age 12 and under).
